Francesco Molinari enters as the top-ranked player in the field. The Italian is playing the best golf of his life as he makes his John Deere Classic debut.

Molinari blitzed the field for an eight-shot win two weeks ago at the Quicken Loans National. He also won the BMW PGA Championship and was runner-up at the Italian Open on the European Tour.

He’s missed just two cuts all year and owns eight top-30 finishes including a T25 at the U.S. Open.

Molinari’s ball striking prowess sets up well to attack at TPC Deere Run. Molinari is second on Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.677 per round). While his putting ranks 191st, he looks loads more confident after ranking top-10 in putting at the National and the BMW PGA.

He’s proven he can go low as he was a combined 38-under in his two wins in 2018.

It’s a little curious why Molinari chose to tee it up this week with an Open Championship big long secured, but if he’s locked in then he’s capable of firing 65 everyday and walking off with the trophy.
