The British Open is one of the toughest majors to handicap. However, if you’re the type to throw a few dollars – or pounds – down, we’re here to help. Here are the odds for the 147th Open Championship.

The British Open is one of golf’s greatest tournaments, both on and off the course. Let’s all be honest here: golf and gambling have gone hand in hand for ages. Ever since people first hit little rocks and balls around Scotland’s green fields, wagering has just been second nature. And nowhere is that more entertaining than at the Open Championship.

There are lots of reasons for that, of course. The course rotation that the Royal & Ancient employs makes it so no one player can typically dominate, as it can be at the Masters. The field is quite strong, even if the exemptions for past champions and amateurs limit the number of “true” contenders.

Then, as always, there’s the weather. The true winner of the Open in so many years is Mother Nature. It can wreak havoc on the field with little (often no) warning, and turn the most hardened pro into a whimpering mess, pleading for mercy.

That isn’t to say that watching the odds at the Open is a fool’s game. Quite the opposite. However, if you want to really find your horse for the week, you’ll need to do more than go with the “top guys”. For every Jordan Spieth or Rory McIlroy that hoists the Claret Jug, there’s a Ben Curtis or Todd Hamilton – no disrespect – lurking behind.

We’ll take a look at some of the favorites, using numbers from GolfOdds.com, and help you determine who’s really worth your money. Remember, though, it’s just that: your money. Be responsible, and have fun!
