If we learned anything at the U.S. Open, it’s that Tommy Fleetwood is not afraid to go low. The Englishman’s final round 63 was a sight to see and nearly netted him his first major at age 27.

He also owns the Carnoustie course record after shooting that same number at the 2017 Dunhill Links including five birdies in a row on the back nine en route to a T25 finish in the tournament.

He shot 70 at Carnoustie en route to a T15 in 2016, 67 for a T13 in 2015, 69 for a T2 in 2014 and 66 for fifth in 2013.

Fleetwood won in Abu Dhabi to go with his solo second at Shinnecock Hills. He owns 10 top-25s in 15 starts worldwide.

He originally planned to play last week in Scotland, but eschewed the extra links prep for a second week of rest in a row.

He is an elite ball striker, checking in at seventh on the European Tour in strokes gained off the tee, seventh in greens and regulation and eighth in greens under regulation.

Fleetwood’s also having a good year around the greens (37th SG). If his putter can get hot, he’ll be in the winner’s circle very soon. Carnoustie will be a totally different beast than when he was teeing it up in a pro-am at the Dunhill Links, but he should have plenty of good vibes coming into this week.
