Okay, so there’s also a bit of a trend of players fighting through injuries on this list, too. Stenson’s injury – an inflamed left elbow – also forced him out of action at the Scottish Open, but he’s going to push through as well as he can. No surprise there.

That’s just what the majors require. Stenson said himself that he wouldn’t even tee it up if he didn’t think he could make the full tournament. So, knowing that – and the fact that he’s still in the field as of this writing – you can feel pretty confident lining him up in your fantasy golf roster.

On the PGA TOUR side of things, Stenson has been quietly very strong this year. He’s scored eight top-25 finishes in ten starts. The only outliers have been his missed cut at the Valspar, and a T-26 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Throw in five top-ten finishes, including a T-6 at the U.S. Open, and you see that there’s really nothing significant to throw you off of the Stenson bandwagon.

Here’s the best part – Stenson leads the PGA TOUR in both driving accuracy (just under 78% of fairways hit) and greens in regulation. He’s third in adjusted scoring despite a mediocre putting game. You have to love that kind of play even if the weather turns south. Basically, if he remains healthy, you roll with Stenson this week.

One small downside of note: Stenson has missed one cut in his career at the Open: 2007, right here at Carnoustie. It happens, and it was 11 years ago. I’m not letting that stop me from playing the big-hitting Swede, but definitely don’t ignore that situation, either.
