Billy Horschel’s a guy who feels like he should be playing over at Carnoustie. He oddly chose not to try to get into the Open field last week via the Military Tribute at the Greenbrier or the John Deere Classic, leaving Billy Ho well-rested for this event.

It’s hard to quantify how much rest really matters, but if you consider most of the field is going on a third or fourth week in a row playing, it could be an advantage.

Horschel’s play is good enough on its own, though.

The former Florida Gator has four top-25s in his last seven starts including a T5 at the RBC Heritage. He was T17 in his last start at the Quicken Loans National.

Horschel and Scott Piercy won the Zurich Classic together this spring.

The four-time PGA Tour winner and 2014 FedEx Cup champion has one of the best resumes of any in the field this week.

He’s 20th on Tour this season in strokes gained off the tee and 25th in SG putting.

Horschel’s one of few guys who could win this week with his “B” game, which leads me to believe he’s one of the safest bets to at least play all four rounds this week, if not cash a huge check.
