RBC Canadian Open: Power ranking the top 10 at Glen Abbey
I’m going to classify DJ’s MC last week at Carnoustie is a mere aberration. Prior to his blunder at the British Open, Johnson was having a brilliant season that’s (largely) helped him keep control of the No. 1 world ranking.
Johnson has wins this season at the Tournament of Champions and the St. Jude Classic. He was the 54-hole leader at the US Open (third place) and has eight top-10s in 13 starts in 2018.
The 34-year-old hasn’t missed a cut in a standard PGA Tour event since the Memorial in May 2017.
Johnson has an impressive resume at Glen Abbey. He finished T2 in 2013 and 2016 and was T8 last year.
In that span, Johnson is a cumulative 41-under.
This season on Tour, DJ is first in strokes gained off the tee, first in birdie average and first in proximity from the rough.
He’s been consistent over the years in saying he needs to hit more fairways to get over the hump and win here (152nd on Tour in driving accuracy). With that said, he’s one of a handful of guys in the field who can win with his “B” game.
Last week was Johnson’s first start since the U.S. Open, making him fresh for this week’s proceedings.
