For a young pro, Adrian Otaegui has shown veteran-like experience this year on the European Tour. The Spaniard  made nine cuts to begin 2018, including a runner-up at the China Open and a win at the inaugural Belgian Knockout.

That streak came to an end at the BMW PGA, but since then he’s made the weekend four of five times including a T12 at the Open de France, a Rolex Series event.

Perhaps most importantly for this week is that Otaegui played well at Green Eagle last year. He finished T5 with all rounds under par and a 66 on Friday. Low round of the tournament was 65.

He had chances to win, but bogeyed two of the par-5s on the back nine to finish four adrift of the lead.

Otaegui led the field in driving accuracy and was second in greens in regulation. He’s 36th and 32nd in those categories, respectably, on the European Tour this season.

Otaegui also won the 2017 Paul Lawrie Match Play, which was hosted in Germany.

Now seems like a ripe time for Otaegui to win his first pure stroke play event.
