WGC-Bridgestone Invitational: Power Ranking the top 10 at Firestone
This seems like a venue that should suit JT well. Thomas finished T33 and T28 at Firestone the last two years, but few contend here right off the bat.
Last year, Thomas shook off an opening 73 to finish 70-69-67.
Thomas showed he was human by missing his first cut since summer 2017 at the Open Championship. It’s a rare blemish on a 2017-18 PGA Tour season that includes a win at the CJ Cup and Honda Classic as well as a runner-up at the WGC-Mexico Championship.
JT has seven top-10s this season and has finished outside the top-25 just twice.
Thomas is fourth in strokes gained tee to green and doesn’t have a glaring weakness in his game.
He is sixth in par-4 scoring and second in par-5 scoring.
If he gets in the trees or the thick rough, he’s 34th in scrambling.
A week after Dustin Johnson became the second player on Tour this year to win three times, Thomas could join that club.
