This is the biggest wild card on the list, so to speak. Based on Tony Finau’s play at the majors, it’s easy to see why his name gets tossed around more and more often to win.

The 28-year-old American has top-10’d each of the three majors in 2018: T10 at the Masters (with an injured ankle), fifth at the U.S. Open (final group on Sunday) and T9 at the Open Championship. Finau’s finished in the top-30 in seven of 10 career starts in the majors.

The only fault with Funau’s 2017-18 PGA Tour season is a lack of a trophy. Other than that, he’s been incredibly consistent. His T10 last week at the WGC-Bridgestone was his sixth top-10.

Finau posted three rounds in the 60s at Firestone and gained around three strokes on the greens on the weekend. That’s a good sign considering the putter is often what holds him back.

He’s 21st in strokes gained on approaches and is third in driving distance. He’s 32nd in par-scoring, also.

Finau knows pressure, whether competing in Golf Channel’s “Big Break” reality competition show as a 19-year-old, playing money games as a young pro and winning both on the Web.com Tour and the PGA Tour.

This week could very well be the week Tony Finau elevates his status in the game.
