PGA Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Bellerive
Rory McIlroy is peaking at the right time. He’s up to a year-best fifth in the world thanks to another high finish last week at the WGC-Bridgestone.
McIlroy’s Sunday 73 was a little disappointing, but no one was beating Justin Thomas on this day. McIlroy’s T6 finish still featured three rounds in the 60s and is his fourth top-30 in a row.
He was T2 at the Open Championship and earlier this year had a solo second at the BMW PGA Championship and Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour and a win at the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
On Tour, McIlroy is 10th in strokes gained tee to green and 39th on approaches.
He’s also 20th in SG around the green. His putter (110th) is slowly coming around and the way he’s hit the ball of late is assuring. Proximity has improved and McIlroy is 32nd in par-4 scoring.
His recent play has him bullish going into the major that seems to annually best suit his game.
