Patrick Cantlay is still riding a little under the radar, which, in a field like the PGA Championship, is at least a little bit understandable. Still, he’s the 24th-ranked player in the world today, and he’s 14th in the FedEx Cup race. There may be bigger names, but there aren’t many who are playing better than the UCLA product.

Cantlay has finished inside the top 15 in four of his last five starts dating back to the Memorial Tournament, so he’s plenty hot. Last week, he finished tied for sixth at Firestone, with basically all of the top contenders at Bellerive also in action at Akron.

Statistically, Cantlay has all the tools to make some noise this week. He ranks eighth on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained tee-to-green and 15th in greens in regulation. Despite some below average putting work (113th in strokes gained putting), Cantlay is still posting some great rounds, ranked 18th in adjusted scoring.

Cantlay’s journey to this point of his career has been well documented, including injury and the loss of his caddie and good friend, Chris Roth, in a car accident in 2016. The 2018 season has seen him live up to all the potential he’s displayed going back to his teenage years. What better way to continue that story than with a real shot at his first major championship victory? Ride with Cantlay and enjoy the week to come.
