Adam Scott re-entered our head space with a strong showing last week at the PGA Championship. The former Masters champion couldn’t fend off Brooks Koepka to win, but a solo third place finish reminded us Scott’s still got game.

It’s been a quiet year for Scott who is seeking his first Tour win since 2016. He’s made plenty of cuts in his limited schedule (three missed cuts in 16 starts in 2018) but needed a special exemption just to get into the PGA.

Nonetheless, he still has six top-25 finishes this year and made the cut in three of four majors.

The 38-year-old Aussie is still hitting the ball great (16th in strokes gained tee to green) and is serviceable around the green (64th). It’s the dastardly putter (192nd SG) that continues to cost him.

He’s giving the broomstick method another go and had sprinklings of success last week at Bellerive. Against a weaker field and on easier greens, Scott just needs to roll home a few 10-20 footers and he’ll be fine.

Scott is seventh on Tour in greens in regulation. He should have as many birdie tries as any this week and I wouldn’t be surprised if he led the field in proximity.

This will be his third start at the Wyndham.
