The Northern Trust: Power rankings for the FedEx Cup Playoff opener
All that’s missing from Tiger Woods’ resurgent season is a W.
Big Cat has five top-10s in just 14 starts in 2018, three of those coming in his last four events and two in majors. We were teased by his solo second at the PGA and T6 at the Open Championship.
Now with the stakes a little lower, perhaps Tiger can pick one off.
Woods has seen Ridgewood once, collecting a T12 in 2010.
His iron play has been as good as anyone’s this summer. Woods is fourth in strokes gained approaching the green. Really, all you needed to see was him shoot 32 on the front nine at the PGA to know how good his mid game is right now.
Plus, the Tiger of old is working around the greens (ninth in strokes gained) and the putter has been solid (37th SG).
He’s played the weekend in 10 of his last 11 36-hole cut events and has finished T32 or better nine times in that span.
Still, we’ve yet to reach the 72nd hole where he’s got a good shot of sealing the deal. That’s bound to change sooner or later.
