Any PGA TOUR season without winning a major is considered a down season for Jordan Speith, since he won two in 2015. This year he failed to win any tournament he played in, the first time that happened since 2012, his first season as a pro.

He almost won the first major of this season, but the Masters championship eluded him for the second season in a row as he finished in third place at Augusta. He shot a legendary final round 64 to put him in contention, but his bogey on the final hole pretty much handed Patrick Reed the green jacket.

He uncharacteristically missed the cut in the next major at the U.S. Open, but he bounced back with a 9th place finish at the Open and 12th at the PGA Championship. Almost any other player on tour would be jumping for joy with two top ten finishes in a major season, but at this point in his career, Spieth is only satisfied with major victories. He started the season as the second-ranked golfer in the world, and now he has dropped all the way to number eight in the ranks.
