It is almost a no brainer for Ian Poulter to be included on this list because he is somewhat of a Ryder Cup legend for the European team because of his stellar play in the event. He has all the experience Bjorn should be looking for by playing on five winning Ryder Cup teams in his career.

Since his first Ryder Cup all the way back in 2004 until his last appearance in 2014, Poulter is 12-3 for Europe all-time in his pairings and an incredible 4-0 when he plays solo. He is also one of the more animated players in Ryder Cup history with the ability to get the crowd going, his teammates fired up, and get under the skin of the American team.

Poulter played well early this season, but didn’t have his best year on tour by any stretch of the imagination and has slipped to No. 32 in the world after a disappointing finish at the PGA Championship . But it will still be difficult to keep him off this year’s Ryder Cup roster because they lost last time around without him and he relishes the moments on the big stage.

It is no secret that the Ryder Cup means the world to Poulter and he brings his A game to the event. When asked the reason for his solid performance after his only win on tour this season at the Houston Open, Poulter responded by saying “Hard work, determination, Ryder Cup.” That quote should say everything about how much he wants to make this year’s roster.
