Paul Casey is another veteran European player with high hopes of making the Ryder Cup team, but he has not played on the team since 2008. He is also coming off a back injury and he has had somewhat of a down season, but his official world golf ranking is a respectable 15th.

He seemed dead set on making the team from the start of the season, he even joined the European Tour again because it is a requirement that Ryder Cup participants must be a European Tour member. He also showed his motivation to make the team when he spoke earlier in the season,

"“Early in the process, when I got obsessed about it — and even at my age, it’s still such a big deal, having played them. I mean, it’s why you know, why I’m doing this. I want to be on that team. I want to contribute to Europe and win that Cup back, plain and simple, and I believe I can be a big part of that.”"

Not only does he want to be a part of the team, he has been successful in his past Ryder Cup experiences. He was apart of two winning Ryder Cup teams in 2004 and 2006 and he played well  he was selected by Bjorn to play to play in the EurAsia Cup this season.

Casey is on the back nine of his career, so this could be his last chance to make an impact on the Ryder Cup stage. His experience and close relationship with Bjorn should be the primary reasons why he plays in Paris for the European side.
