The Made in Denmark offers the final chance to earn European Ryder Cup points. Can anyone still make a late push?

As the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs dwindle down and the Ryder Cup draws nearer, the European Tour fields will gradually go stronger. This week offers a little more prize money and world ranking points than last week’s Czech Masters, which is only a good thing for the viewer.

Speaking of the Ryder Cup, the Made in Denmark offers the last chance at earning European Ryder Cup points. The top four players on the list — Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood — are already locked in for the team on points. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Alex Noren are in off of their world ranking.

One more automatic spot off of points is still up for grabs, and that accolade is held currently by Thorbjorn Olesen, who is playing in his home country. Olesen can guarantee his spot on the team with a T7 or better this week. Eddie Pepperell and Matthew Fitzpatrick can overtake him if either wins and Olesen finishes eighth or worse.

All of these names and more are assembled this week at Silkeborg Ry GC in Aarhus. This is Thomas Bjorn’s home course and is a new venue after the event’s first four years were at Himmerland.

Silkeborg appears to require a bit of tact as it measures just 6,975 yards. The parkland style Line Mortenson track is filled with doglegs, bunkers and lakes that can deter some bombing.

Rain and wind are in the forecast Friday and Saturday before drying out on the weekend with temperatures in the 60s.

This seems like a week where any type of player can win and one that is difficult to project without any past course form to speak of. We’ll roll with guys who have been in good form in the late summer months.

Let’s go!
