BMW Championship: Power ranking the top 10 at Aronimink
It’s make or break time if the PGA Tour sophomore is going to become a Ryder Cup rookie. He’s fighting for a captain’s pick and was looking good last week at the Dell Technologies Championship. Schauffele opened with two rounds of 68 to get into contention before fading to finish T49.
In the meantime, Bryson DeChambeau won again to all but clinch his spot likely alongside Phil and Tiger. That leaves Schauffele to battle with a favored veteran like Matt Kuchar and a hot player like Tony Finau who just finished T4.
This is the last week before selections are made, so Schauffele’s going to leave it all on the line.
He’s shown he can handle the nerves as he won twice last year as a rookie and contended this year at the Open Championship and Players Championship where he placed T2 both times.
He’s also used to winning FedEx Cup Playoffs events; Schauffele won the 2017 Tour Championship.
The San Diego State product has made four of his last five cuts. If the fairways are generous as they sound like they’ll be, a long driver like him can perhaps let loose a bit and make some birdies.
