Two top-25s to open the playoffs keeps JT in the thick of things to try to become the first player to defend as FedEx Cup champion. Thomas opened with a T8 at the Northern Trust and shot one of the low rounds of the day Sunday at the Dell Technologies Championship.

Thomas eagled two of TPC Boston’s three par-5s to fire a 6-under 65 and climb 36 spots up to a tie for 24th.

In days past, Thomas might have bottomed out when he wasn’t in contention. Now, he’s salvaging his “down” weeks and is one of the most consistent players.

He’s a three-time winner in the 2017-18 season including recently at the WGC-Bridgestone. Thomas has missed just one cut and finished outside the top 50 one other time in 19 starts in 2018.

In the PGA Tour stat ranks, he’s 41st or higher in the main strokes gained categories including third tee to green.
