Tony Finau knew he needed good showings in the playoffs to give him a chance at earning a Ryder Cup captain’s pick. So far, so good as he took solo second at the Northern Trust and T4 at the Dell Technologies Championship.

He’s up to a career best 17th in the world and has been very consistent. The knock on him is he’s won just once (2016 Puerto Rico Open) in his career, but since 2017 he has 16 top-10s, three of which are top-threes, and missed just six cuts. Finau has three top-10s in the majors and is a birdie-making machine.

Finau is 13th in strokes gained tee to green and third in driving distance, though he may need to scale back to skirt the abundant bunkers at Aronimink.

He’s above average in the main strokes gained categories and is top-40 in proximity from both the rough and fairway. Finau is 15th in par-4 scoring and 10th in par breakers.

It’s due time for him to win an event. Why not now?
