Omega European Masters: Power ranking the top 10 at Crans-sur-Sierre
The European Tour returns to the Omega European Masters, one of its most historic tournaments, situated in the picturesque Swiss Alps
It could be me and you teeing it up this week at the Omega European Masters and it would still be appointment television. This week’s stop at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland, is one of the European Tour’s most picturesque stops all year.
The golf course itself isn’t anything to marvel at from a strategy standpoint, but its views are breathtaking. The tree-lined course has hosted annually since 1939, making it one of the institutions of the Tour.
Crans-sur-Sierre is a 6,848-yard par-70 that is played at significant altitude. Straight hitters and good scramblers are in luck here. Length is not a requisite.
The fairways are very undulating and the bent grass/poa greens are small and will kick wayward shots away on run-offs.
Recent Omega European Masters winners like Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex Noren and Danny Willett combine with historic greats like Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie to add to the tournament’s prestige.
There are just six full-field events on the schedule before the Race to Dubai Final Series, so the fields are gradually getting stronger.
Weather has temperatures in the 60s Fahrenheit this week with a chance of rain over the first three days. Winds shouldn’t be more than a minor factor.
Let’s see who could get in the mix this week:
