Matt Fitzpatrick did what he could in his last chance to impress captain Thomas Bjorn last week at the Made in Denmark, posting a T7.

With that fate out of his hands, the Englishman can focus on defending his Omega European Masters title.

He carded an impressive final-round 64 last year to erase Scott Hend’s four-shot lead after 54 holes and win in a playoff.

Hend didn’t make my top 10, but he’s been runner up each of the last two years and is a worthy pick despite falling out of form lately.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming, Fitzpatrick posted a 16-under-par winning total last year and was T7 in 2016 despite an opening 75. He’s 31-under-par in his last seven rounds at Crans-sur-Sierre.

In 2018, Fitzpatrick has three top-10s including a T8 at the BMW PGA Championship. He also showed well at the U.S. Open with a T12 and has gone 4-for-5 in cuts made at Rolex Series events.

Fitzpatrick favors narrow courses, so this week’s test suits him nicely. He’s 62nd in driving accuracy, 23rd in strokes gained approaching the green and 65th in strokes gained putting.

He’s in jeopardy of completing his first winless European Tour season, but this week offers a great chance to mend that.
