The pressure will be off Pieters in one way or the other when he puts his peg in the ground Thursday. European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn will make his captain’s picks Wednesday, so the work has been done for Pieters.

Will he be riding the high off of making the team for the second time in a row or will he have a chip on his shoulder after being left off following his 4-1 mark at Hazeltine.

Either way, there’s a healthy chance Pieters posts a good showing here at Crans-sur-Sierre.

The Belgian has regained his form lately with three top-10s in his last five starts. Pieters, 26, has made his last nine cuts and finished T40 or better each time.

He’s played well at big events, finishing T6 at the Rolex Series’ Scottish Open, T28 at the Open Championship and T6 at the PGA Championship.

This will be Pieters’ third Omega European Masters start and first since 2015 when he tied for 60th.

This season on the European Tour, Pieters ranks  32nd in scoring average and 21st in birdies. He’s also been above average in strokes gained tee to green and putting.
