TOUR Championship: Power ranking all 30 players at East Lake
After battling for 11 months to earn points, the race for the FedEx Cup concludes this weekend with the Tour Championship at East Lake.
What would you do with $10 million? Thirty players assembled at East Lake have that very question on their minds as the 2017-18 season closes at the TOUR Championship.
Well, almost 30. Players ranked in the 20s or 30th have very slim chances of winning it all, but you can never say never. Bill Haas was 25th when he got up and down from the water and overcame the odds to rise to No. 1 seven years ago.
The TOUR Championship features Tiger Woods in the field for the first time since 2013 as well as defending tournament champion, Xander Schauffele. The reigning FedEx Cup champion, Justin Thomas, is also in the Peach State.
East Lake Golf Club has long been the Tour Championship host site. It’s a 7,385 yard, par-70 track. It’s a rather straightforward course with somewhat narrow fairways and substantial Bermuda rough, especially if you go too far off line.
A good ball striking week with a dash of putting is a good formula to get the job done here. Winning score is likely going to fall around 10-under.
Starting in 2016, the nines at East Lake are reversed for the Tour Championship so no longer does the tournament end on a par-3.
Stats to watch this week include par-3 and par-4 scoring, strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained approach. Current form is also important, though everyone getting last week off refreshes things a bit.
We’ve come this far together, so it’s only fitting that we give each player who has earned a spot in the field this week their due. What follows is my ranking of all 30 players in the TOUR Championship. Here we go.
