He’s only a vice captain on the 2018 European Ryder Cup team, but Paddy is playing as well as some on the team.

After a woeful spring and summer, the 47-year-old finished runner-up a few weeks ago at the Czech Masters and followed it up last week with solo fifth at the KLM Open where he finished just three off the pace. His stroke average is 67.4 in those eight rounds, all of which were at par or better.

Harrington’s also got a good resume at the Portugal Masters. He won this event in 2016 and defended solidly with a T25. He’s made the cut all six times at Dom Pedro and a T47 was his worst result.

Despite his low Race to Dubai ranking, Harrington is 30th on the European Tour in stroke average (70.09). He hasn’t been great with the driver all year but that should be mitigated some this week.

He’s also sixth in strokes gained around the green and 33rd in putts per green in regulation. Last week at the KLM Open, Harrington led in greens in regulation.
