Ryder Cup: Breaking down each member of Team USA
Bubba Watson’s streak of consecutive Ryder Cup appearances was broken in 2016 at three. He barely missed out, finishing 10th in points. Instead of a captains pick to play, he was chosen to be a vice-captain and coach. He was back on track in 2018, finishing 5th in points to earn an automatic bid.
Watson had a very interesting 2018. He was one of four players with three wins, tied for the most on the year. However, he also had a four week stretch where he missed the cut three times, and finished T-31. He looks to be back on track, shooting 68 or better in six of his last eight rounds.
When it comes to success at the Ryder Cup, Bubba is sorely lacking any. His lone bright spot is that he has gone .500 in four-ball, although that is the only place he has gotten any wins. At 3-3-0, Furyk will likely look to build Bubba’s confidence by getting him into an early four-ball grouping Friday.
Foursomes and singles have been a big struggle for Bubba. He is a combined 0-5-0 in the two events, surprising for the success he has had in regular PGA play. As one of the senior players on the team, Bubba will likely be asked to play a little more cautiously to get some points on the board for the U.S. Ryder Cup squad.
