Ryder Cup: Breaking down each member of Team USA
Patrick Reed easily has the best record on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. As mentioned earlier, Reed and Spieth have only played together. They are 4-1-2 overall together, helping the U.S. find great success.
The only difference so far between Spieth and Reed have been results in singles matches. Reed is 2-0-0, beating Henrik Stenson 1-Up in 2014, and famously (and loudly) defeating Rory McIlroy 1-up in 2016.
Reed will be looking to find the same success he had early in the season. He ripped off an incredible stretch of six straight top ten finishes in March and April. He sandwiched those finishes around his first major, winning the Masters this year.
Reed has been successful in heads-up play for quite a while. In 2008, he made it to the U.S. Amateur semi-finals, losing 3&2 to the top ranked amateur in the world, Danny Lee.
As the most successful player on this year’s squad, a lot is going to fall on the shoulders of Patrick Reed. Look for Reed to play in four or five matches in 2018 to take advantage of his former success. He played in five matches in 2016, and is a likely candidate to do the same in 2018.
