Ryder Cup: Breaking down each member of Team USA
Dustin Johnson will be coming into his fourth U.S. Ryder Cup team in the last five years. His 6-5-0 record is a little misleading, as he is 5-2-0 the last two events. His lone rough year was his first appearance in 2010, going 1-3-0. His lone win was a singles match against Martin Kaymer, where he had a resounding 6&4 victory.
DJ has had a great 2018. He found victory three times this year, and played consistently throughout the whole season. Top ten’s were earned in over half his events, in 11 of 19 appearances on the year. Johnson rarely even finished outside of the top 25, with a T27, T59, and one missed cut.
His last two Ryder Cups have been very successful. 2012 was easily his best, where he went 3-0-0. He won a singles match against Nicolas Colsaerts, and paired twice with Matt Kuchar for wins in four-ball. The same didn’t hold true in 2016 for DJ and Kuchar, as they lost their four-ball match.
Furyk is going to heavily depend on Johnson to carry the squad. He’s in the middle for age, and arguably in his prime. This is a golden opportunity where he can be depended on to mesh with the younger and older golfers. Not only that, but he can be looked to stabilize the squad with his consistent play the last two events.
