Webb Simpson THE PLAYERS Championship
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA – MAY 13: Webb Simpson of the United States celebrates with the winner’s trophy after the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass on May 13, 2018 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images) /

Webb Simpson will be making his third appearance for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. After making it back to back seasons in 2012 and 2014, he missed out in 2016. It was quite the disappointing season for Webb, only making the top 10 twice.

2018 was a great resurgence. Webb earned himself the final guaranteed spot, finishing eighth in points. Eight top tens and a win helped get him to France. A second place finish at the Wyndham and a sixth place finish at the BMW locked up his place on the team.

2012 was a great debut for Simpson, going 2-2-0. He really shined in four-ball, pairing both times with Bubba Watson, going 2-0-0, winning both matches 5&4. 2014 turned out to be a completely different story.

Simpson made his way as the final captain’s selection that year. He ended up not making much of an impact, only playing two matches. He has admitted it was “a terrible experience“. After struggling through his first match, he sat all day Saturday, not playing again until halving a match against Ian Poulter in Sunday singles.

With time off in 2016, and earning his way instead of being picked, Simpson should be better this time around. If anything, he is almost guaranteed to play more than two matches.
