Safeway Open: Power ranking the top 10 golfers at Silverado
It would have been fun to see what damage Joaquin Niemann could have done in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. His play was worthy of a spot, but his membership status prevented him from joining the top 125.
Now that he’s got full status, he can start earning FedEx Cup points. If last season’s any indicator, he’ll be piling them up fast.
The young Chilean and former world No. 1 amateur posted four top-10s in 13 PGA Tour starts in 2018.
Niemann will tee it up for the first time since a T33 at the Wyndham Championship in August, which was his sixth made cut in a row.
He has the distance to pick his spots to bomb away at Silverado with the iron game to lay back if he wishes, too.
A win seems in the cards sooner or later for the 19-year-old. A fall event would be a suitable low-stakes arena to pull it off.
