Safeway Open: Power ranking the top 10 golfers at Silverado
Talented young Argentinian Emiliano Grillo claimed his maiden PGA Tour win here at the Safeway Open in 2015. His big week saw him edge Kevin Na in a playoff.
Grillo posted rounds of 68-71-65-69 (15-under) in his win. In recent years, he followed with a T26 and T28 and was in contention in 2017 before plummeting to a Sunday 77.
If he can shake that dud out of his mind, there’s solace to take in that his 11 other rounds at this course have all been under par.
Grillo comes to Napa seeking his fifth made cut in a row. His last start came at the BMW Championship (T61) with a T7 at the Dell Technologies Championship still fresh.
His 2017-18 season also featured a pair of third-place finishes at Colonial and Houston.
Grillo was eighth last year in driving acuracy and 41st in greens in regulation. His putting was also superb at 12th in strokes gained.
When he’s firing on all cylinders, Grillo’s a world class player. He can be inconsistent, but I expect his good side to come out at a comfortable environment like this.
