The man of Steele has a soft spot for Silverado. Two of his three career PGA Tour wins have come at the Safeway Open as he’s going for his third tournament title in a row.

Steele fired 67-71-67-65 to win by one over Patton Kizzire in 2016 and 65-67-72-69 to win by two over Tony Finau last year. That’s 33-under over eight rounds.

“I’m getting pretty spoiled winning the first event of the year twice,” Steele said in 2017. “This place is so great to me. I feel so comfortable here and it’s been a great run.”

Before the Southern Californian had a monopoly on the winner’s circle, he still played well at Silverado, posting a T21 in 2014 and T17 in 2015.

This tournament is just what Steele needs to get it going again. He opened 2018 with five made cuts in a row and finished T3 in Phoenix but couldn’t close the season well.

Course history isn’t everything, but against a weak field, the safest bet is to roll with Steele for the three-peat.
