British Masters: Power ranking the top 10 at Walton Heath
These final three selections might as well be 1A, 1B and 1C. You have to pick nits to make distinctions, but here’s my best effort.
My theory is it can be a demanding week to serve as tournament host, even if the title is more ceremony in nature.
Lee Westwood did it best among the last three hosts, recording a T15 last year at Close House.
Rose does come into the week in fine form, though, and should be able to thrive in his dual roles of spokesman and player.
His T4 at the Tour Championship helped him become FedEx Cup champion. He’s registered a staggering 11 top-tens in 18 starts in 2018.
Rose was also a leader at the Ryder Cup where his two points helped Europe hoist the cup.
His game is adaptable enough to contend anywhere. It can only help that this is a course he was keen on during the selection process.
"“Walton Heath is a golf course I really, really enjoy playing, in fact I love it. I went back to Walton Heath in the summer just to ensure I wanted to take the tournament there and I had forgotten how good a golf course it is,” Rose said in a press release. “It has got teeth but it is traditional and hopefully the players will really enjoy it.”"
