Andalucia Valderrama Masters: Power rankings at Real Club
Lee Westwood isn’t the man he was in 1997, but he’s regained glimpses of his vintage form. The man who once played all five matches for Europe in the 1997 Ryder Cup captain was recently a vice captain.
Westwood can still play, though, as evidenced by eight made cuts in a row (13 if you discount a withdrawal). Within that span, the Englishman made a playoff in Denmark (T2) and hung around at the European Masters (T12).
He ought to feel Valderrama owes him one. Westwood has played brilliant golf here but hasn’t been able to convert one of six top-10s into a win. This will be his first start at Valderrama since 2008, so maybe some time away was beneficial.
