One of the bright spots from Team USA’s beatdown in France was Tony Finau. The Ryder Cup rookie acquitted himself well by going 2-1 with a win in singles.

He kept his solid play going with a T10 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship a few weeks ago before resting up for his trip east.

Going back further, Finau has finished inside the top 25 of nine of his last 11 events and owns 10 top-10 finishes (two runner-ups) against three missed cuts in 24 starts this year.

He acquitted himself nicely in his WGC-HSBC Champions debut in 2017. Finau posted T11 and was under par in three rounds.

This is a course where he’ll try to let loose as he’s one of the Tour’s biggest hitters who isn’t afraid to play from out of position (35th in proximity from the rough).

He can pile up birdies (11th) and isn’t afraid to go low like you need to this week.

While some players are just here this week to cash a guaranteed check and go back to their “offseason,” something tells me Finau is sick of only seeing that Puerto Rico Open trophy on his mantle.
