Dustin Johnson Hero World Challenge
SHANGHAI, CHINA – OCTOBER 29: Dustin Johnson of the United States plays his shot from the 13th tee during the final round of the WGC – HSBC Champions at Sheshan International Golf Club on October 29, 2017 in Shanghai, China. (Photo by Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images) /

The good news: Dustin Johnson won this event in 2013 and set the tournament record of 24-under. The bad? It came at Mission Hills and not Seshan.

DJ nearly won at Seshan last year, too, but found a way to squander an eight-shot lead going into Sunday.

If he can get past the scar tissue (something he’s proven he can do) of his collapse, he can remember his strong play at this event that resulted in a T5 in 2015 and last year’s runner-up.

In 2018, Johnson’s won more times (three) than he missed the cut (one) and reached world No. 1 for several weeks.

He finished the 2017-18 Tour season ranked first in strokes gained tee to green and fifth in strokes gained on approach. A great ball striker like Johnson tends to do well here and I expect more of the same this week as he’ll be well rested compared to the field.

A win this week would vault him back ahead of his workout buddy for world No. 1, who is fittingly next in line in these rankings.
