Cameron Champ is proving he’s more than just a one-trick pony. The 23-year-old made waves during his amateur days for his length off the tee, but he did more than just smoke driver to win in just his eighth PGA Tour event last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Albeit against an alternate field, It was still a dominant performance to win by four shots.

He took advantage of a course that allows for bomb and gouge last week in Mississippi and can likely do more of the same at the Shriners.

Champ hit less than 50 percent of his fairways, but made up for it by averaging 334 yards off the tee, hitting 76 percent of greens in regulation and gaining over two strokes per round on the greens.

This type of formula helped him graduate from the Web.com Tour after one year.

Champ also tied for 25th in his 2018-19 debut at the Safeway Open.

There’s reason to be cautious about going with a rookie in his first start after the win. It’s why I’ve got him further down the rankings. Still, he’s playing awfully well and seems pretty grounded. Plus, he’s not making the trek across the globe back from China/the Asian swing like others are.

You’re probably kicking yourself for not throwing a few bucks on him last week, but we are in Vegas this week: maybe the roulette ball will find the same number twice in a row.
