The 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open champion is back to defend his title.

High winds made scoring unusually difficult last year. Cantlay’s superb ballstriking stood up to the test to reach 9-under as he outlasted Alex Cejka and Meenwhee Kim to win on the second playoff hole.

Cantlay fired rounds of 67-71-70-67 to win his first and only PGA Tour event.

He’s come awfully close to more as he’s up to 11 top-10s since 2017 including a runner-up and third.

Cantlay is coming off a T7 last week at the WGC-HSBC Champions, the only Asian swing event he played in.

He’s made eight 36-hole cuts in a row and has missed only one in a non-major since 2017.

Last season on Tour, the 26-year-old Californian was 10th in strokes gained off the tee and 16th in SG approach.  He was 17th in par-5 scoring and could walk away with some eagles by week’s end.

Cantlay’s overall putting statistics aren’t great, but Future of Fantasy ranks him 15th in strokes gained on bentgrass since 2014.
