Through 144 holes at Regnum Carya, Thorbjorn Olesen is the cumulative leader. Scores of 65-62-68-69 (-20) got him a three-shot win in 2016 and 69-68-66-66 netted solo fifth just three shots back last year.

Olesen is known to be a bit wild off the tee at times, but he’s grown to be a lot better at reining it in. Plus, based on his comments during the 2017 event, he doesn’t mind plotting his way around this place.

"“It’s just a really good golf course. Makes you think out there,” Olesen said. “There’s a lot of options from the tee. You can either choose to bomb it or go short. I just like the thinking about this golf course.”"

He’s got the greens down pat as he led in putts per GIR last year and was ninth in 2016.

Olesen is high up this week’s rankings not only for course history, but for recent form.

The Dane has kept up a good pace since his win at the Italian Open in June by racking up five top-10s since including a T7 against a strong field at last week’s WGC-HSBC Champions.

He had a week of rest prior to China and has been off three of the last five leading in, so Olesen should be primed to go after a busy summer and fall.

He has four top-20s in his last five starts.
