Mayakoba Golf Classic: Top 10 power rankings at El Camaleon
Joaquin Niemann’s first professional foray in the eastern hemisphere didn’t exactly go according to plan in Asia. Now back home, so to speak, for the Chilean, he’s back in the top 10 where he’s so familiar.
Niemann was in the 60’s all four rounds and hit a ton of greens. One of those greens in regulation, in fact, was his first ace as a pro.
This isn’t desert golf this week like they had it at TPC Sumerlin where you can readily bomb away, but I like him to scale back and still have short clubs into greens.
Plus, Niemann should feel a bit more at ease this week being able to speak his native tongue in Mexico.
The young former No. 1 world amateur could crack the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking with a win. That benchmark seems attainable sooner or later, but a win would accelerate the hype beginning to build.
