Mayakoba Golf Classic: Top 10 power rankings at El Camaleon
Gary Woodland has about as much experience at El Camaleon as any in these power rankings. He’s made the most of his three Mayakoba starts, posting T28 in 2009, second in 2016 and T34 in 2017.
He was the 54-hole leader in ‘16 and fired a third-round 63 in 2009.
This has likely been Woodland’s career year to date, but a win would solidify that. He won the Waste Management Open in February and went into hibernation for a bit. A T23 at the Memorial in May revived him to make his next nine cuts, a streak that still continues.
In that span, Woodland won the non-Brooks Koepka division at the CJ Cup and picked up two other top-10s including a T6 at the PGA Championship.
Count him as another one of the guys who could have been useful for Team USA at Le National.
Woodland’s style of play doesn’t naturally fit this type of course. The Driver is forced out of his hands a lot, which has seemed to help him hit fairways. He’s been above 70 percent his last two starts here and proceeded to hit over 75 percent of GIR.
