Shane Lowry doesn’t have a sparkling resume at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, but sometimes current form trumps being a horse for the course.

Lowry’s got plenty of the latter.

He’s coming off a T14 at the Turkish Airlines Open, which was his third top-15 in his last five starts and sixth in his last 10.

If not for Sergio Garcia winning the Andalucia Valderrama Masters for the third time in a row, Lowry was next in line to hoist the trophy with a solo second.

The Irishman is seeking to move up into the top 30 in the Race to Dubai by the end of next week to ensure a spot in the Open Championship.

“I’m showing a bit of form and I think I could do alright this week. My iron play is nice, it is good at the minute,” Lowry was quoted by the Irish Times before the Turkish Airlines Open. “I put a new set of irons in the bag only the week of Portugal. Srixon have a new iron out, and I just put them straight in the bag. I didn’t even test them. I liked the look of them.”

Lowry did finish T12 at Gary Player CC last year and was 11th in 2014, so it’s not as if he can’t solve this course.

He finished 38th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee in 2017-18.
