Branden Grace became the first South African to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge since Trevor Immelman in 2007. His winning score of 11-under in windy conditions was also the highest since Martin Kaymer won at 8-under in 2012.

Grace’s short game was on display as he deviated from the usual formula of long and straight driving by finishing 12th in scrambling and fourth in putting average.

He’s played well in Sun City just about every time out: After a T20 in his 2013 debut, Grace finished T4 in 2015 and T3 in 2016. Starting in 2015, he’s fired rounds of 68-74-67-71, 71-69-71-70 and 68-75-68-66 for a cumulative 26-under total.

This could be the perfect spot for Grace to turn things around with his current form. He has four worldwide top-10s in 2018 but none since a T5 at the BMW PGA Championship in May.

Grace has pieced it together, though, as he’s only missed two cuts and has 17 top-50s this year.

He ranks 30th in par-5 scoring, fifth in strokes gained approach and 38th in SG around the green on the European Tour. His putter’s also been above average.
