Results of T20 and fourth don’t necessarily indicate elite golf historically at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, especially considering as it started as a five-man field.

In its current form, these finishes aren’t too shabby at all from Haotong Li.

Li fired a Sunday 64 last year to vault up the leaderboard and finish four off the pace. He was under par in three rounds but a Friday 77 spoiled his chances.

The young player from China is now a year wiser and is still playing high-quality golf.

Li went low again, this time at last week’s Turkish Airlines where a Saturday 63 helped him into a playoff. He beat former world No. 1 Rory McIlroy in a playoff in Dubai earlier this year but could not get by Justin Rose who won the playoff and moved back to the No. 1 slot.

That solo runner up made for a fourth straight finish in the top 11 and sixth straight of T27 or better.

Li ranks fifth on the European Tour in birdie average and is seventh in strokes gained off the tee. He’s also 42nd in SG putting and was third in putts per round last week in Turkey.

One more high finish and Li will have a great shot at cracking the top 10 in the Race to Dubai and earn some of that bonus pool money.
