RSM Classic: Power ranking the top ten at Sea Island
The 23-year-old rookie is showing no signs of slowing down. After winning a few weeks ago at the Sanderson Farms Championship, he churned out a T28 in Vegas and last week a T10 in Mexico.
Ten of his last 12 rounds are in the 60s including a second-round 62 last week at the Mayakoba.
Although he missed the cut at the 2017 RSM Classic, seeing the course ought to be a benefit now that he’s returning in top form. This course doesn’t set up for his big-hitting style of play (1st in strokes gained off the tee), but he found a way to hit 75 percent fairways on a 316-yard average so really it’s work inside 100 yards that could make the difference.
He had a bad putting week at Sea Island last year, but that’s forgivable for a youngster seeing a course for the first time. Champ gained five strokes on the field on the greens in Mexico, so he may have something going with the putter.
Champ would break the mold of the traditional RSM Classic winner, but him winning wouldn’t come as a big surprise on Sunday.
