2. Went into 18 tied and it was a competitive 22 hole finish

In a match play scenario there is always a risk that the match could have been decided before the round was over. Both of them even predicted that they would be 1 up on the other one heading into the final tee shot at 18.

But both of these guys are incredible showmen, so it was easy to predict that they would set it up to go into the last hole all square, and that is exactly what ended up happening. Tiger’s incredibly clutch chip in on the 17th hole set up a perfect scenario going into 18 and then no one could have predicted what ensued after that.

On 18 they both birdied the manageable par 5 to force a playoff hole and a repeat of hole 18. They followed on the exact same hole, finishing with disappointing pars. That sent the match into even more extra holes where they created a 97 yard par three. They had to hit their tee shots off of a practice green behind the clubhouse.

They ended up having to play that hole three times, and the match came down to who could make their birdie opportunity on the 22nd hole. The match eventually came down to two birdie putts, Tiger went first and he had a tough downhill breaking putt that he missed. Phil then putt the match to sleep by sinking his four footer.
