As if three wins in 2018 weren’t enough, Matt Wallace comes to South Africa feeling good after two straight top-fives.

The 28-year-old Englishman posted T5 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in southern South Africa and followed it up with a T2 at the DP World Tour Championship. That combines for a 28-under-par total.

Wallace comes in off two weeks of rest, which were likely needed as he’s made 29 starts in 2018.

In those starts, Wallace achieved career European Tour wins Nos. 2, 3 and 4 at the Indian Open, BMW International Open and Made in Denmark. He has six total top-10s and no missed cuts since July.

Wallace ranks first on the Euro Tour in eagles and is also no worse than 52nd in the main strokes gained categories highlighted by 29th off the tee.

At last year’s Joburg Open, Wallace recorded a T30. He fired a 65 on Friday at Bushwillow and a 67 Saturday at Firethorn, but he’ll like to rectify his other Firethorn rounds of 73 and 74.

He hit the ball great (fourth in driving distance, 13th in fairways and 15th in greens in regulation) but couldn’t get anything to fall. Seeing these bentgrass surfaces for the second time could do the trick.

As long as Wallace isn’t out of gas at year’s end, his talent and form stack up with anyone this week.
