South African Open: Top 10 power rankings at Randpark GC
Brandon Stone could be in line to be one of South Africa’s next stars. The University of Texas graduate made a big splash this summer when he won the Scottish Open and beat a slew of big names in the process. That was the 25-year-old’s third European Tour win and the biggest of the bunch.
He’s cooled down a bit since that win in July, but it’s been a long season. Stone should be reinvigorated not only by the two weeks of rest he got after the DP World Tour Championship (T57), but for heading back near his native Pretoria.
Stone knows how to get it done in South Africa as his first two wins came there: the 2016 South African Open and the 2016 Alfred Dunhill Championship.
He did not play in last year’s Joburg Open.
Stone was sixth on the European Tour last season in eagles and 29th in birdies. He can hit the ball far and isn’t bad with the putter, either (47th in putts per green in regulation).
It’ll be a contentious race for low South African this week, but Stone is definitely one who can get his hat in the ring.
