South African Open: Top 10 power rankings at Randpark GC
Branden Grace is twice a winner in his home country, but he’s still looking to check the South African Open off his list. Grace, an eight-time European Tour winner, won the Joburg Open in 2014 and the Nedbank Golf Challenge in 2017.
He came tantalizingly close to winning last season’s South African Open when he finished solo second three shots back off winner Chris Paisley.
Grace did not play last year’s Joburg Open, so this is his first glimpse at Randpark in competition.
He’s coming off of two weeks’ rest with a T34 at the DP World Tour Championship his last result. Grace, 30, finished T11 at the Nedbank Challenge the week prior.
He’s in jeopardy of going his first calendar year without a worldwide win since 2013. In his defense, the veteran does have his SA Open runner-up, a T3 at the Byron Nelson and three top-30s at the majors in 2018.
Grace finished the 2017-18 PGA Tour season above Tour average in all strokes gained categories. His short game was solid per usual at 62nd in SG around the green and he had one of his best seasons with the flat stick at 42nd in SG putting.
The Pretoria native grew up about an hour from Randpark so he’ll have plenty of support this weekend.
