PGA TOUR: Ranking the 25 most dominant performances of 2018
By Bill Felber
No. 7: Dustin Johnson, Canadian Open, -2.98
No. 5 (tie): Ryan Armour, Sanderson Farms, -3.21
No. 5 (tie): Kevin Na, Greenbrier, -3.21
Dustin Johnson’s three stroke victory at the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey was only his second most impressive performance of the season; more on that to come. Still, Johnson was relentlessly steady, with four rounds of 68 or below. His total was three strokes better than four runners-up, and nearly a dozen strokes better than the 277.76 four round field average.
Ryan Armour came to the Sanderson Farms event seeking his first PGA Tour victory. He got it in a major way, recording the day’s low round on Thursday and again on Saturday. His winning score of 269 was five better than any other player in the field, and beat the field average by 15.8 strokes. It was also Armour’s first top five finish in more than a decade.
Kevin Na came to the Military Tribute at the Greenbrier seeking his first victory in seven seasons. He trailed by five strokes after two rounds and remained one back entering the final round of play, which was weather-delayed. But on a day when the field average surpassed 70, Na closed with a 64 to pull five strokes ahead of the field. He made more than 143 feet worth of putts during that final round.
